I-5 Early Implementation Project (EIP) Final
Design, Newhall Land Company
RMC, Inc. is the prime consultant
for this Newhall Land project that will improve I-5 in north
Los Angeles County. The project limits in the southbound direction
start from Pico Canyon Road to SR-14, while the northbound direction
starts from SR-14 to Calgrove Blvd. Our team is currently
developing design concepts and Geometric Approval Drawings
(GADs) for adding truck climbing lanes on both northbound
and southbound I-5. The addition of these truck climbing
lanes (two in the southbound direction, one in the northbound
direction) will provide more immediate congestion relief along
I-5 before the ultimate improvements are completed. The PS&E
is being prepared concurrently with the environmental document
for the I-5 ultimate improvements, making it critical for the
project teams to coordinate closely to ensure that the design
for the EIP is environmentally cleared. As part of the PS&E
package, the RMC, Inc. team is preparing the Storm Water Data
Report, Drainage Report, Geotechnical Design Report, Aerially
Deposited Lead Study, and Transportation Management Plan.
In order to deliver the PS&E as efficiently as possible,
the project was broken into two design segments. In addition
to developing design concepts, RMC, Inc. is also managing the
design efforts on both project segments. This includes extensive
coordination with the project team working on the I-5 ultimate
improvements to ensure that they are complementary and to minimize
throwaway costs.
